Chief Alice Mackay Speaks to Educators

Aboriginal Champions programs started in middle schools and has been a very successful initiative in promoting Aboriginal Worldviews and Perspectives in the Classroom from K-12.  The Aboriginal Department was honoured to have Chief Alice Mackay of Matsqui First Nation speak to a group of 100 educators including cultural support workers, teacher champions and vice principals from all schools in our district. She spoke of her own educational experiences and encouraged all working in schools to continue to work hard to support Aboriginal children and families in our schools to achieve their best potential and to be sensitive to past trauma, to acknowledge local Aboriginal history and to seek to understand and respect Aboriginal ways of learning.  We appreciated her heartfelt and inspiriing message!
